What Is Faith?

What Is Faith?

Faith in Hebrew comes from the word ''emunah'' which has to do with fidelity and firm trust. In Greek the word used for faith is ''pistis'' which means believing. The Bible brings a concept of faith in Hb 11:1, which says:

“faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

In this passage, faith is God's instrument for believing in promises and in what is invisible. In fact, the passage that brings the concept of faith is Ephesians 2:8, see:

''For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that does not come from you: it is the gift of God.''

Here we clearly see that faith is a gift from God. In other words, a supernatural ability that the Holy Spirit generates in the person to believe in his power and love.

Therefore, we can define faith as trust in God generated by the Holy Spirit. Please do not confuse faith with blind faith. Faith is believing that Jesus exists and that he will come to get his church one day, blind faith is believing, for example, that you can eat whatever you want and not do any type of exercise and still not run the risk of being affected by any disease. Faith is believing based on experiences of what God has done in the past of your life.

May God bless you and give you strength to stay on the path of faith.
