Why do we believe in God?
<

"For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7
This article is both apologetic and about psychology. We need to understand a little more about the reasons that lead us to believe in God. Theories within psychology and in popular culture are numerous. We can begin with the famous and renowned psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. For him, belief in God was linked to the desire for protection from the father, which persists even after adulthood. Therefore, the individual does not cease to believe in God.
There are also those who believe that belief is merely a product of poverty. Thus, socially vulnerable people would believe in God as a way to have the strength to deal with the problems of daily life. For the philosopher Nietzsche, faith in God is a projection of the values of a people or society. Finally, there are those who say that belief in God is merely a product of the fear of the possibility of the existence of hell.
The truth is that we believe in God because of tradition. Our grandparents passed this belief on to our parents, who passed it on to us. Only later did we study the scriptures to confirm our faith. Regardless of the reason, it doesn't interfere with the existence or non-existence of God. In Philosophy, even if you explain the origin of a belief, even if that origin is strange, it's still possible that the being believed in exists. It's necessary to analyze the arguments for and against the existence of God.
