Understand The Trinity
''For us, however, there is one God, the Father, from whom all things come and for whom we live; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.'' 1 Corinthians 8:6
One of the most important doctrines of historic Christianity is the doctrine of the Trinity. At the same time, it is one of the most difficult to understand. ''How can there be three people and one God at the same time?''. I will list here some thoughts that people have about this doctrine and explain their mistakes. I did my TCC (Course Completion Work) in Theology working on this doctrine.
''There are three gods: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit''
There are not three gods because for that to happen the three people of the Trinity would have to be autonomous, totally separate and completely independent. It's not the truth. In this case it would be an equal triad in Hinduism: Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva. In the Trinity, although they are three distinct and autonomous people, they share the same essence.
''It's just one God with three different names''
This conception is also not true. Although God is unique in essence, we can find in him three distinct people with different functions. God is not an absolute unity, but a composite unity. Anyone who studies mathematics knows the difference between the two concepts.
“The Trinity is a contradiction”
Someone might think: ''how can there be three and one at the same time? This is a contradiction''. You need to remember the Brazilian State. How many Brazilian states exist? Only one, but there are three powers: Legislative, Executive and Judiciary. We have a single State, the Federative Republic of Brazil, made up of three powers. Likewise is the Trinity, a single God composed of three persons.
I hope you understood. Be sure to follow our articles and videos so that God can work in your life and so that we can grow together in grace and knowledge.
